In a shocking incident, a class 9 student jumped from the second floor of the school building on Friday. The incident took place at Pooncheri Government Higher Secondary School, Mamallapuram, Chengalpattu district, Tamil Nadu.

A 14-year-old class 9 student was from the Mahabalipuram fishing village of Chengalpattu district.

The girl is said to have been scolded by the school teacher for not studying properly and the teacher is said to have asked the girl to bring her parents to meet the teacher.

The girl, fearing repercussions of the teacher complaining to her parents, decided to jump out of the building. The girl went up to the second floor of the school and jumped down and tried to commit suicide.

In this, the student suffered a fracture to her rib and severe injuries were sustained to her arms and legs. The teachers at the school immediately rushed the student to a hospital nearby, and from there the student was transferred to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital, and she is currently receiving treatment there. Her condition is said to be critical.

The Mamallapuram police is conducting a preliminary investigation into the accident.
