Aviolent clash broke out between two groups in Madurai’s Usulampatti after an argument ensued over which group would be felicitated first during a ceremony in a temple.

The incident happened at the Valandur Angala Parameshwari temple where a special Pooja was organised on the 48th day after the temple consecration was conducted.

The two groups, who belong to the same community, reportedly had previous enmity and started arguing about who would be felicitated first. The arguments soon escalated into violent clashes.

Over 10 people, including police personnel, were injured during the clash. More than 100 police personnel have been deployed and the Superintendent of Police is currently taking stock of the situation.
