If you’re a bride-to-be, who doesn’t want to hire an expensive makeup artist for your wedding day, we understand. There are many examples of brides who’ve done their own makeup and looked fabulous. So, if you, too, prefer this idea, we’ve rounded up some of the best tips you must take note of before doing your makeup look on your big day.
Tips to do your own bridal makeup
1. Do a test run before your wedding day
If you’ve planned out what makeup look you’ll go for on your wedding day, it’s safe to do a test run first, at least a few days before the main event to ensure that the look really stands out with your outfit. Sometimes, what you’ve envisioned in your mind doesn’t end up looking the same way when you actually do it.
You don’t want your big day to be more stressful than it already is, so it’s better to practice the look, even for two-three times, before the final day.
2. Don’t stray away too much from your usual makeup routine
You don’t need to buy any fancy set of new makeup products for your wedding. Your focus should be defining your features and enhancing your natural beauty. This way, you’ll feel more confident and be your truest self.
You may become tempted to go for a trendy look, but you shouldn’t forget that trends come and go, while your wedding photos will stay forever. Try to stay away from looks that don’t define your personality.
3. Opt for quality products
f there’s one day we won’t advise you to go for dupes of expensive makeup, it’s your wedding day. You’re the centre of attention on this day and tons of pictures will be taken of you. However, if you have any holy-grail drugstore finds, then it’s fine. But don’t pursue a product you’re unsure about.
Trust us, this is not the day to choose quantity over quality, especially when it comes to products like lipsticks, eyeshadows and foundations. You’d want your lipstick to last all day long, and the other two to blend seamlessly for a flawless look. Oftentimes, their cheaper dupes end up looking chalky and uneven.
4. Don’t overdo your blush
If you’re someone who doesn’t typically apply blush, there’s no need to change it for your wedding day. The best way to use blush is to apply it a little bit more than you think, as it gets washed out in the pictures. Also, a gentle reminder that you need to blend the product really well if you don’t want to look like a clown.

5. Avoid using a foundation infused with SPF

Though using sunscreen every day is highly recommended, wearing too much SPF oxidises the foundation that changes its colour as the day goes on. You should also avoid choosing a foundation with SPF, as it can reflect the light off the camera, making your skin tone appear in a lighter shade in photos.
6. Only wear waterproof eye makeup

There’s bound to be a lot of crying on your wedding day, but the last thing you want is your melted eye makeup streaming down your face. Hence, ensure everything you’re applying on your eye is waterproof, whether it’s a mascara, eyeliner or eyeshadow.
