Mahhi Vij shared a simple way for vegetarians/vegans to enjoy a protein-rich tikki. The actress made delicious tikkis a while back for her daughter Tara Bhanushali and shared the recipe online. Besides potatoes, Mahhi, in her recipe, also added boiled red kidney beans (or rajma) with other healthy ingredients. Red kidney beans are a great plant-based source of protein.

Mahhi took to Instagram and shared a video showing a step-by-step process of making healthy tikkis. The scrumptious dish includes onions, coriander, ginger and lemon added to the boiled potatoes and red kidney beans. In the caption, Mahhi wrote, “Protein tikki. Khao aur khilao.”

The recipe is quite simple and quick. Here’s how you can make it. Soak a cup of red kidney beans overnight. Boil two potatoes with the soaked kidney beans the next day. Once boiled, mash the potatoes and the red kidney beans together and throw in some chopped onions, coriander and ginger to the mix and squeeze half a lemon for taste enhancement. Mahhi recommends sprinkling the blended ingredients with salt, pepper and chat masala to make it flavourful.

In a pan, sprinkle a tablespoon of cooking oil (an oil of your choice). Make tikkis out of the concocted potatoes and kidney beans and neatly place them on the warm pan. Lightly fry the tikkis till they are golden brown and serve hot.

Here’s a tip. Rajma tikkis would pair well with green chutney or tomato ketchup. It also serves as an excellent choice for an evening snack.
