Basil is a culinary herb that is popular in Italian cuisine. Its scent can deter flies. Fruit flies and house flies are unable to tolerate it. To get rid of flies in your home, plant a basil plant in your yard or on your balcony next to or alongside a hot pepper plant. Basil leaves can also be used to manufacture an insect repellent spray. Pick a few basil leaves and gently squeeze them to make cuts in the leaves. Steep these leaves for 30 minutes in boiling water. Strain the juice from the leaves and use it as a spray.

Vinegar

The strong odours of many essential oils deter insects. A spray made from a combination of these oils is an excellent approach to keep flies away from your home. You’ll need strong-smelling oils like clove oil, thyme oil, peppermint oil, lemongrass oil, and cinnamon oil to make this spray.

Fill a glass halfway with apple cider vinegar and cover with a clear plastic sheet. Rubber bands should be used to hold the sheet to the glass. Make a hole large enough for fruit flies to climb into the glass with a needle. The flies will be able to smell the vinegar in the glass through these holes. They won’t be able to fly out of the holes after they’ve crawled in. They’ll drown eventually.

Fill an open basin halfway with vinegar and a few drops of dish soap. The soap lowers the surface tension of the vinegar, causing the flies to sink and drown when they try to land on it.

Ginger Spray

Ginger spray is a natural and effective insect repellent that is simple to produce and works well. The strong odour of ginger, like that of hot pepper and basil leaves, repels flies and keeps them away from your home. In addition, a mixture of ginger and water is an efficient bug repellant used in fields. Most flies avoid ginger because of its pungent, disagreeable odour.
