5G launch in India is not too far away and people will finally be able to experience faster internet speeds. While addressing the nation from the Red Fort on 75th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier today announced that the wait for 5G is over and it will soon be rolled out to different corners of India. But, when will 5G arrive in India? Airtel and Jio have already made some big claims about the rollout of 5G network in India. Keep reading to know more.

When will Airtel 5G rollout in India?

Airtel’s CEO Gopal Vittal recently confirmed that the telecom operator would roll out 5G services in August. The company reported that it will start deploying the 5G network in India by the end of this month, in partnership with big tech companies such as Samsung, Nokia, and Ericsson. The telecom giant revealed that Airtel has plans to cover all the towns and cities, including rural areas, by 2024. There are chances that Airtel could announce 5G launch today, as is the case with Jio.

Reliance Jio’s Chairman, Akash Ambani, recently claimed that the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” will be celebrated with 5G rollout across India. All this basically suggests that the 5G launch could take place today. But, do keep in mind that there is no official confirmation yet.

The telecom operators are first expected to roll out 5G on a pilot basis in top cities. The Prime Minister is said to officially launch the 5G network during the India Mobile Congress (IMC) on September 29, according to a few reports.

List of cities that will get Airtel 5G network first

Airtel is first said to roll out 5G in only 13 cities. These will reportedly be Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune.

What could be the price of Airtel 5G services?

The prices of Airtel 5G are expected to be similar to 4G prepaid plans. The company’s CTO Randeep Sekhon has said, “If you see globally, there’s not a major difference between 5G and 4G tariffs. We expect 5G plans in India to be similar to 4G tariffs.”

Vodafone Idea, on the other hand, believes that the price should be higher than 4G as people will be getting the fastest 5G network in the country.

Currently, customers get unlimited benefits with 4G prepaid plans priced between Rs 500 to Rs 600. So, there are chances that the 5G plans could be priced in a similar range. It remains to be seen how expensive 5G will be in India.
